Victorians wait longer for $300 Commonwealth energy rebate thanks to Allan Labor Government

While Queensland and Western Australian residents have been receiving their first quarter 2024-25 Commonwealth Government electricity bill rebates since 1 July, which will total $300 per household over the full year, Victorian residents are still waiting for Energy Minister, Lily D’Ambrosio, to sign off on the rebates.

With Victorian households and businesses doing it tough during the cost-of-living crisis, relief from their high winter heating bills is not yet in sight, despite the rebates having been fully funded by the Commonwealth Government.

Minister D’Ambrosio needs to give energy retailers permission to apply the rebates to their customers’ electricity bills, but this has not yet occurred.

Shadow Minister for Energy, Affordability and Security, David Davis, said: “Victorians need their electricity bill rebates now. Thanks to the Allan Labor Government’s failed energy policies, heating homes and businesses has never been more expensive.

“The minimum Minister D’Ambrosio needs to do is process the required paperwork and ensure money flows to Victorians this week.

“Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage our energy system and Victorians are paying the price.”
