Siri, define ” peak Council”
Siri: Moving 216 bins off the beach so that residents and visitors drown in dog poo, plastic bags, pizza boxes and cans.
I’m not entirely sure which public servant ( were they working remotely in their underpants?) thought it would be a good idea to deal with overflowing bins… by removing them from our beaches altogether.
I’m also unsure why incumbent Councillors did not object to this contentious proposal – as expected, it’s proven extremely unpopular with all residents – not a single parent, pet owner or beach goer praised council over bags of festering dog droppings thrown out where bins once used to be – to end up in the bay during high tides.
There was zero communications to the households either – other than a vague letter about ” additional bins” sent in July- August 2024.
With Councillor allowance over one term sitting at a whopping $148,000 – that is, WITHOUT extra $52,232 – $125,000 deputy mayor and mayor earns annually you’d expect them to advocate for you and I, our environment, and occasionally, some common sense.
“During summer months beach bins are collected daily – clearly they need to be emptied twice daily on weekends and during busy periods. Or perhaps, let’s get bigger bins – you don’t tend to see manky, fetid or overflowing bins in Bayside, Coogee, Bondi, Glenelg, Cottesloe Beach or in Broadbeach. Only in Kingston.
Council claimed waste vehicles are “unable to reach bins due to the crowds” – only having done it for 30 very hot summers since Kingston existed. (insert facepalm)
On the subject of placing bins at entry points and in carparks – I personally don’t know a single beach goer who wants to be greeted with a pile of fragrant garbage (dog droppings included) upon entering the beach on a 37 degree day.
REAL Independents are committed to bringing bins back to the beach – please sign the petition to help new, fresh Kingston council keep our beaches clean and reduce environmental impact on wildlife and residents health – such as microplastics.
